Ceramics

This semester I am in a ceramics class and wanted to show what I have been working on. I know it is a little hard to tell the sizes of the pottery in these pictures but most of them are 6 to 7 in. wide and 5 to 7 in. tall with the exception of two or three pieces. I really like pottery and I think that going in to the class I knew what kind of pots I liked and didn't like. But what I think I got coming out of the class is what makes a good pot and a bad pot. So trust me when I say it hard to make a good piece of pottery.

These are the last of the oil painting projects. These are the paintings where we are to use everything we have learn in the class to make great paintings. The multiple fruit still life was our final for the class.

Here are a few more paintings that were done for my intro oil painting class. The projects were ( from top to bottom) based on value, warm vs. cool light and intensity.

These were some of the longer poses, up to 30 minutes long. Some are better then others. The top drawing is the newest of the bunch. All and all I think I am getting better at proportion and getting it down correctly on the paper. These were done in charcoal on parson pad paper.

These are just a few of the drawings that I have done in my figure drawing class. I believe that most of these were only 5 min. gesture drawings. I really like doing these fast drawings but because they are done so fast the proportions are a little off. They are done using charcoal on parson pad paper.

Think Ink Opening

This last Saturday I had the opportunity to exhibit my prints along side other advanced printmaking students of BYU-I. In the exhibit "Think Ink" held at The Art Museum of Eastern Idaho. Posted above are some pictures of me along side the prints and also a small glimpse of how many prints were shown. Personally I had 15 prints on display in the show.

Today is the opening of the show "Think Ink" at The Art Museum of Eastern Idaho. It will consist of art from the advanced printmaking class at BYU-I. Fifteen of my most recent prints will be shown and will be available for purchase. If you get a chance, come check it out. Open from May 8th- August 1st.

During this last semester I took an intro oil painting class. At first I was quite annoyed by how the class was being taught but by the end I really liked it. I think the reason I was having a hard time was because even though it is a four year school they still seem to treat it like a two year school, in the upper level classes you still get crammed with the fundamentals. Luckily in this class we were able to move past some of those things enough for me to enjoy painting. I think now I have a better opinion of still life's.

Workshop

These pictures are form our last workshop. The workshop was on how to do monotype prints. The photos are of the students work and one of nick demo pieces (the blue bird), me helping with the press and the student that attended.

This Saturday my friend and fellow artist Nick and I were able to teach our second printmaking workshop for The Art Museum of Eastern Idaho. At this workshop we taught the students how to make a Drypoint print. It was a lot of fun and they gained a greater appreciation for intaglio printmaking.
