100th post

On the trip to Southern Utah we journeyed to Zions National Park. This picture was taken in the area of the park called the Narrows. It is a long winding river with sheer cliffs on either side so the trail is the river. I traveled to this point of the river took this picture and then headed back. The whole journey was full of wonderful view and if anyone has the chance to visit this park it is well worth it. 

Southern Utah

I was able to take a family trip to southern Utah in and around Kanab. What a beautiful place, everywhere you look there was an epic backdrop. On the trip I did a little photography of the surrounding landscapes.

Garden Gems

Some gems of the garden. I think the garden came out nice this year.

Ghost Town

Rexburg has some pretty cool ghost towns. Nick Bontorno, my brother Paul and I attempted to find the first house at night but were unable to because of tall grass and thick trees. Later on some friends and I tried a more direct route in the day time and found it with ease and realized we were only feet away from the house in the dark. Our friend Allen knew about another old building and ghost town. They were marked with no trespassing signs so we stopped to ask the farmers working near by if it would be okay to visit the home and they agreed.

Photography

Well, as many of you know I have been busy with life, a new life to be more exact and it has been hard to find the time to do art. So this was a chance to do both watch her grow and do photography. These photos were taken with my 35 mm film pentax camera on 400 black and white film. After taking the photos my brother Paul Moulton (Photo Major) helped me develop and print the images. It was a lot of fun in the darkroom but can be a little tricky for your first time.

San Franisco Art Travel

San Francisco, to sum up the trip I had a great time. Not at all what I expected it to be like so that was fantastic. During the long trip in the car I got to listen to the professor's stories which were inspiring and on the way back I was goofing around with new found friends. On the way coming and going to SF we had spent the night in Reno and can I say in general I am not a big fan of Reno but it does have one saving grace: the art museum. Heading to California we learned the forecast was going to be rainy so the professors threw the rest of the plans for what we were going to do out the window and just winged it. The first day we got tons of free time which was great. We went all over looking at little shops and print galleries and one of which had some Mucha's. We then got to Crown Point Press and I got a little tour which was the top highlight of the trip for me. I tried to take as much in as I could.
The next highlight for me was to go to all the museums and see the art I have only see in history booka and some I have never seen at all. I think the SFMOMA was where my favorite painting of the trip was Pablo Picasso Scène de rue (Street Scene). For closer look click here Another wonderful place I found was the Zen garden at the Japanese Tea Garden it really was a peaceful place to sit and just think.
And the last highlight was the food from breakfast till dinner there was not a shortage of good food to eat like Chinese and Ghirardelli. To top it off I got home on March 14th to a fantastic chicken pot pie made by my great wife.

Night Photo Op

During the Thanksgiving break Nick Bontorno and I set out to take cool night photos of Rexburg and here is some of what we got. Oh and also it was super cool that night.

Photo Op

I felt like going around the house and trying to take some interesting pictures of objects. I enjoy the way that pipes are made sometimes I think the plumpers are just having way to much fun. In the fence photgraph I really like the mood of a cold foggy morning which it was.

Photo Experiment

So for my birthday I bought an old pentax K1000 film camera and decide to go around Rexburg and take pictures. The picture above is scanned in and unedited and the one below is edited in Photoshop. So for any of you that read this blog which do you think is better and or does the top photo stand on its own? You can also vote on it in the poll to the right.

Anchor

When we went to Florida we went deep sea fishing in the Gulf of Mexico. On the party boat I was looking at the anchor and the rusty chains and took this picture. The rope is connected to a large chain then to the anchor. It moves up and down electronically and is tied in a knot by one of the maids working on the boat.

Power Lines

This is an alley way in downtown Idaho Falls with the added bonus of having power lines running across. I think I have a fascination with power lines and how the whole big mess of wires get sorted out. As a side note this ally is next to a old hotel converted in shops and one of the shop is a Russian grocery store which has some good stuff to try.

Ft. Myers Beach

We rented a beach house on the Gulf of Mexico where we had a great view and could go out on to the beach whenever we liked. The first picture is me in the moonlight on the beach. The moon was full and all the beach homes had to keep their lights low for the sea turtles. They lay their eggs and the hatchlings use the moonlight to go back out to sea. So if the house lights are too bright they go the wrong way. The second is of our view at sunset. All and all it was a great time.

A Stockton Mill

So I finished my semester at school and I am now back in California. This was a photo taken way back in 2006 when me and my brother would go out on the town and take pictures of Stockton. This building is long since gone. I also decided to post this picture because I thought Nick might get a kick out of it.
