100th post

On the trip to Southern Utah we journeyed to Zions National Park. This picture was taken in the area of the park called the Narrows. It is a long winding river with sheer cliffs on either side so the trail is the river. I traveled to this point of the river took this picture and then headed back. The whole journey was full of wonderful view and if anyone has the chance to visit this park it is well worth it.

Southern Utah

I was able to take a family trip to southern Utah in and around Kanab. What a beautiful place, everywhere you look there was an epic backdrop. On the trip I did a little photography of the surrounding landscapes.

Knife Making

My first attempt at making knives. It started from an American made file and then was grinded, filed, and sanded to the profile I wanted. The next stage will be working on the handle

Leather Case

I really like my Case trapper pocket knife and in it's honor I decided it needed it own case that I could wear on my belt and take with me to work. I made the leather case without a template and little help from my brother Bryan.

Grips

My first attempt at making a pair of custom grips. They were made using Cocobolo hardwood. All that is left to finish them out is to drill the holes for the screw and screw nut.

Earrings

Earrings made from some of the cool beads my wife had got for me as a gift. It's a very simple design but I don't think it needed any more.

Southern Pomo Language Poster Update

I just received these pictures of the Southern Pomo poster that I helped work on getting installed. I believe that they are being installed along a nature trail next to the Russian river. For a better look at the poster click the link Here

Eye on the Prize

Another print done with dry point and mezzotint. I really like the texture you can get from both of those techniques.

Overcome

This print ended up giving me some trouble but in the end I think it came out to be a nice print. I used a few techniques in this print like line etching, aquatint, roulette, stenciling with spray paint and scraping and burnishing. Some of the issues I had were the white dots, they were caused by bubbles in the acid and I foul bit parts of my aquatint.

Dry Printmaking

Both of these prints were made using dry printmaking techniques. The top print I created using only dry point and the bottom print is a mezzotint. Both techniques don't require acid to create the image making them dry techniques.

Monotypes

Monotypes are prints that can only be produced one time while using a printing method i.e. press or baren. These are monotypes that were made during some free time while at school. I am taking pictures of a lot of my art work to get a portfolio out.

Southern Pomo Language Poster

I got a great chance to work on a large out door language poster for the southern pomo with Alex Walker and Dan McDaniel. In the poster we use bar codes that when scanned with an app made by Dan McDaniel will pronounce the word in the native language in southern pomo. In the image you may not be able to use the bar code so I have provided the bar codes below.

Man in the Mirror

Another painting done a while back in Rexburg. My wife helped me name this painting man in the mirror, although she doesn't remember that.

Painting of a Street

Well I wish I had something clever to say for a reason why I haven't posted in a long time like I was fishing off the coast of Madagascar but I don't. So I will just continue as if it never happened. This was a painting I did at BYUI. One of the hardest things to learn in painting for me is color.

Just a quick drawing I made while at church. So many great people there to draw.

Earrings 2

Earrings I hand made while I was still in Rexburg. The beads were given to me by Carla Jimison and she was a great help in showing me how to manipulate the wire. For Christmas I got more beads so more earrings to come.

Lucky

I'm working on a poster for the scout auction. So far it has been a lot of fun doing this illustration. Now it just needs some type and finishing touches and we are good to go.

Chair

A nice little still life I painted awhile back. In Idaho it was great to be inspired by others.
